I charge $750 for a chapter 7 bankruptcy. This includes consulting with you, producing the bankruptcy forms and filing them with the court, and appearing at the mandatory 341 hearing with you. The Court charges a $335 filing fee. You can put $100 of the filing fee down when the chapter 7 is filed and pay the rest in installments within 120 days of filing . I also provide chapter 13 services. A chapter 7 is the most common form of bankruptcy which results in the discharge of most of your debts. A chapter 13 involves a payment plan over a three to five-year period.
A lot of clients are busy with work and family. If meeting during the workday is not convenient, I can meet you during evenings or weekends. My main office location is in Seattle, however I can also meet you at a convenient location closer to your home or work outside of Seattle.
KNOWLEDGEABLE AND EXPERIENCED
I have been an attorney for over 20 years and have represented debtors in bankruptcy proceedings throughout King, Snohomish and Pierce counties. My clients have filed bankruptcies for reasons including financial problems from divorces, the housing market, job loss, medical problems, losing a driver's license due to unpaid tickets or judgments, or simply letting too much debt build up, and numerous other reasons. I have had clients in different housing and financial situations ranging from living by themselves to living in a blended family household, and living with siblings or other relatives, or roommates. Each case is unique, and I get all the facts so that your case proceeds properly.
A CHANCE TO START OVER
If you are like many debtors, you may be facing large amounts of bills from credit cards, medical providers, loans, judgments, and other debts. In some cases your wages might be getting garnished and you are concerned about how you are going to pay your bills. One of the basic goals of the federal bankruptcy code to give the honest debtor a fresh start and clear up burdensome debts that they can no longer manage. The United States Supreme Court made this point in 1934 in the case of Local Loan Co. v. Hunt, 292 U.S. 234, 244 (1934) when it described the purpose of bankruptcy as “It gives to the honest but unfortunate debtor... A new opportunity in life and a clear field for future effort, unhampered by the pressure and discouragement of pre-existing debt."
This opinion was written during the Great Depression many years ago. Despite the passage of time, the same basic economic problems occur today, and the bankruptcy code is available as a form of relief for many individuals. As your bankruptcy attorney, my goal is to make the process as simple and straightforward as possible for you.
